One of our most popular sensors which work along the principle of the Theremin. Put your hands into its electromagnetic field while mapping it to MIDI pitch bend and volume messages and create that spooky movie music. Design your own custom control panel. Turn plants into sensitive beings. Ranges upto approx. 15 cm (5.9 inch). See this videoclip for a demo of the Reach v3 !

Application examples

  1. Measure proximity of human body parts secretly through thin walls, wood etc.
  2. With the Interactive Picture Frame, design an innovative museum exhibit.
  3. Make your own Theremin: put your hands into its electromagnetic field while mapping it to MIDI pitch bend and volume messages and create that spooky movie music.
  4. Make any dielectric object, like plants, sensitive to reach gestures by using it as an antenna. See the Reach v3 manual for instructions.
  5. Create a fancy control panel by combining Push sensors (Push, Push3D), Reach sensors (Reach, ReachClose), Slide sensors (eg. Slide-50, Slide-200, Slide-500, SlideRound, SlideWide), Touch sensors (Touch, TouchMicro-05 TouchMicro-10, TouchMini, TouchMiniOn, TouchStrip) and Turn sensors to name a few.

Software support

  1. 09 Dec 2014: SensorX v1.00 for MacOS and Windows (64bit, contact us for the 32bit version) from source code in Max. For multiple sensors or sensor outputs, run multiple instances of the application, each started in its own folder. Use together with Connect (MacOS / Windows) or BlueMIDI (Windows).

Application notes To maximize the range, place the sensor in the desired location and press the pink button on the sensor once with a non-ferrous (eg. plastic) stick. This will allow the sensor to adjust to the dielectric properties of the material it is placed on or near. This setting is stored in the sensor, hence this procedure needs to be done only once if the sensor isn't moved and its environment isn't changed.
