This sensor measures soil moisture up to the point where it's really wet. But wait .. it also measures temperature and light level - perfect for measuring the ambient conditions of your plants. A digital I2C sensor, that outputs cailbrated, high resolution, low-noise signals.

Application examples

  1. Measure the soil moisture of the plants in your home.
  2. Combine with the Hot, Humid, Air and Light sensors together with Switches to control water valves, to create a full-blown irrigation system for your plants.

Software support
  • Our EditorX software allows you to configure the digitizer to process and map the sensor data of multiple sensors simultaneously. Use the method parameter to set the sensor to output (method #1) the moisture level, (method #2) ambient light level, (method #3) temperature or (method #4) all of them.
  • See also the Moist3D function description for more details about the various methods available in host and standalone mode.

  • 23 Jul 2019: Moist3D v1.12 for MacOS and Windows from source code in Max. For multiple sensors or sensor outputs, run multiple instances of the application, each started in its own folder. Requires a digitizer with firmware v7.51 or higher, or v7.33 or v6.33. Use together with Connect (MacOS / Windows).
Application notes
  1. Please note that this is an electrical device. Do not immerse in water.
  2. Make sure the sensor is plugged into the digitizer with the red wire connected to power. Reversing the plug may cause damage to the sensor.
  3. Requires a digitizer with digital (I2C) ports, eg. the WiDig, USB-microDig or Wi-microDig.
  4. The default I2C address is 32 (0x20). Both I2C lines have 4.7 kOhm pull-up resistors.
  5. See the Moist3D function description in the firmware documentation for more details about the various methods available in host and standalone mode.
  6. To extend the cable, use ExtendCableD-01 and/or ExtendCableD-10.
