ReachClose v2.2 (obsolete)

A sensor for waving at your gear. Leave your fans in awe of your magic majestic gestures. Reaches up to 200 cm (79 inch) distance. View, calibrate, record and map the sensor data using our ReachClose software (see below). To have a range upto 5.5 m use the ReachFar. This sensor combines with almost any of our other sensors. For a demo, see this videoclip (also available in QuickTime) !

Application examples

  1. Measurement of proximity of objects like hands or walls.
  2. Great for making that fake Theremin.
  3. Update your keyboard with this handy gadget.
  4. Combine with a TapTiled floor, some MoveOn and/or Advance-645 and/or ReachFar sensors and make sure every move of your visitor has an effect. The Flash + SeeLaser combo adds a touch of diamond robbery feeling.
  5. Pamper your robot or toy car and combine with GForce3D-6, and Orient to detect approaches to and/or impacts with walls and what have you.
  6. Create a fancy control panel by combining Push sensors (Push, Push2D), Reach sensors (Reach, ReachClose, ReachOn), Slide sensors (Slide-50, Slide, Slide-170, SlideLong, Slide-500, SlideRound, SlideWide), Touch sensors (Touch, TouchMicro-3, TouchMicro-5 TouchMicro-10, TouchMini, TouchMiniOn, TouchStrip) and Turn sensors (Turn, Turn&Spin) to name a few.

Software support

  1. 09 Dec 2014: SensorX v1.00 for MacOS and Windows (64bit, contact us for the 32bit version) from source code in Max. For multiple sensors or sensor outputs, run multiple instances of the application, each started in its own folder. Use together with Connect (MacOS / Windows) or BlueMIDI (Windows).
  2. 08 Dec 2010: ReachClose v1.11 for MacOS and Windows from source code in Max.

Application notes
  1. Due to the modulation of the infra-red light that is used to detect a reflecting object the sensor is insensitive to ambient light variations.
  2. Glass or other transparent surfaces can be placed in front of the sensor but for best results place the sensor as close as possible to the surface and make sure the sensor emits/receives light perpendicular to the surface to avoid reflections that distort the sensor output.
  3. Warning ! Make sure the sensor is plugged into the Digitizer with the red wire connected to power.
  4. For best results, use only one ReachClose per digitizer since the current requirement fluctuates between 30 - 50 mA which creates significant power supply noise. Hence, when using multiple ReachClose with one digitizer the sensor signals will be more noisy.
  5. The number of ReachClose that can be used with one digitizer is determined by the maximum current that can be supplied to the sensors by the digitizer divided by the maximum current required by the ReachClose, ie. 50 mA.
