A sensor that recognizes a variety of hand gestures: swiping up/down/left/right, and moving near to or away from the sensor. Leave your fans in awe of your magic hand motions. Doubles as a proximity sensor, up to 20 cm (8 inch) distance. Triples as a color sensor, ie. measures ambient, red, green and blue light levels. A digital I2C sensor, that outputs high resolution, low-noise signals.

Requires a USB-microDig running firmware v7.5 or higher.

Software support

  • Our EditorX software allows you to configure the digitizer to process and map the sensor data of multiple sensors simultaneously.

  • We will soon release dedicated software for using this sensor in host mode. Ask us about it !

Application notes
  1. Make sure the sensor is plugged into the digitizer with the red wire connected to power. Reversing the plug may cause damage to the sensor.
  2. Requires a USB-microDig running firmware v7.5 or higher.
  3. The default I2C address is 57 (0x39). Both I2C lines have 10 kOhm pull-up resistors.
  4. Our software enables you to use most features of this sensor. In EditorX, use the method parameter to set the sensor to output (method #0) a different message for each of the up/down/left/right/near/far gestures when detected, to output (methods #1-6) a message only when the up/down/left/right/near/far gesture (selected by the method number) is detected, to output (method #10) the proximity of an object or to output (method #20) the red/green/blue/ambient light levels.

  7. The number of Swipe3D sensors that can be used with one USB-microDig is determined by the maximum current that can be supplied to the sensors by the USB-microDig, ie. 240 mA divided by the current required by the Swipe3D, ie. 37 mA (when using it to detect gestures), so that at most 6 Swipe3D can be used.
  8. Due to the modulation of the light that is used to detect a reflecting object the sensor is insensitive to ambient light variations.
  9. Glass or other transparent surfaces can be placed in front of the sensor but may affect range and/or accuracy.
  10. To extend the cable, use ExtendCableD-01 and/or the ExtendCableD-10.
