What is your orientation ? Find east, west, south, north, up, down and more with this sensor in any position. Obtain the heading, pitch and roll of any object. A digital I2C sensor, that outputs high resolution, low-noise signals. View the sensor data using our Orient3D software (see below). Mount on your body with Wearability. Need longer cables ? Use the ExtendCable2D.

Application information

Product Orient3D sensor
Examples
  1. Use it as a sophisticated game controller.
  2. Allow your robot or toy car to know what's up and down, and left and right etc. Combine with GForce3D, and ReachClose to detect approaches to and/or impacts with walls and what have you.
  3. Use 5 Orient3D on a human body and calculate its posture (some math skills required !).
Manuals Using the sensor with the Wi-microSystem enables you to use the sensor without being tethered to your computer or MIDI device.
  1. Make sure the sensor is plugged into the digitizer with the red wire connected to power. Reversing the plug may cause damage to the sensor.
  2. Requires a digitizer with digital (I2C) ports, eg. the USB-microDig or the Wi-microDig.
  3. The default I2C address is 96 (0x60). Both I2C lines have 1.8 kOhm pull-up resistors.
  4. For more technical specs, and to find out how to access the sensor data, please consult this datasheet.
  5. Any magnetic materials or fields in the vicinity of the sensor may distort the sensor output.
  6. The minimum sampling interval may depend on your computer. If you experience that the digitizer stops sending data only after a delay once you have set the on/off button to "off", and/or that the axes switch (eg. heading is shown as pitch, pitch is shown as roll and roll is shown as heading), increase the sampling interval.
Software
  • Our EditorX software allows you to configure the digitizer to process and map the sensor data of multiple sensors simultaneously.

  • 19 Jan 2018: Orient3D v5.21 for MacOS and Windows from source code in Max. For multiple sensors or sensor outputs, run multiple instances of the application, each started in its own folder. Requires a digitizer with firmware v7.51 or higher, v7.33 or v6.33. Use together with Connect (MacOS / Windows).
  • 03 Nov 2017: Orient3D v5.20 for MacOS (Sierra or lower) and Windows from source code in Max. For multiple sensors or sensor outputs, run multiple instances of the application, each started in its own folder. Requires a digitizer with firmware v7.5, v7.3, v7.2, v6.3 or v6.2. Use together with Connect (MacOS / Windows).
