Detects movement of humans and warm-blooded animals. Be there not or be I-CubeX-ed. Configurable in many ways, wrt. sensitivity and output. The sensitivity effectively sets the distance range within which objects are detected. With the header set to digital mode, it outputs a pulse if movement is detected within its field of view. The pulse length is user-configurable. Also, the pulse can be triggered when someone enters and then leaves the field of view or it can be triggered when somebody enters OR leaves the field of view. With the header set to analog mode it outputs values continuously representing movement. These values can then be scaled and smoothed so as to get a signal that roughly corresponds with activity in the room.

Application examples

  • Use for detection of motion of animals or humans in rooms (doesn't detect just presence, because only movement of heat-emitting objects is detected). Use two or more to determine the direction of a movement.

Other human, animal and object sensors

We offer a number of sensors to detect motion and/or presence and/or proximity of humans, animals and objects in a space:

  • For a motion sensor with variety of sensitivity and output configuration options, view the MoveOn v1.8.
  • If you need a motion sensor of which the output changes each time any motion is detected so that it can be smoothed to give a signal that roughly represents the amount of activity, checkout the MoveOn v1.4.
  • A smaller version which output stays high while motion is detected and during a fixed length of time afterwards, try the MoveMiniOn.
  • Want to detect motion through walls ? See the MoveThruOn.
  • Need to detect presence as well as body temperature ? Try the HotSpot2D.
  • The Advance-645 detects the distance of a person in a 50° cone.
  • Need pin-point distance detection ? The ReachFar and its digital, laser-accurate cousin ReachFarD detect distance up to 4 m within a cone of a few degrees. The ReachClose and its digital, laser-accurate cousin ReachCloseD do the same but up to 2 m.
  • Setup perimeters with break-beams made from a SeeLaser-Red or the invisible SeeLaser-IR (or any of our SeeLaser products) and a Flash.
  • Place TapTile, TapMatOn or TapStripOn sensors on the floor or stairs to detect a person stepping or standing on it, and even get a measure of the exerted force.
  • To know exactly who is present, use the ReachID and let each visitor be detected through their RFID tag.

Software support

  1. Our SensePlay software is a very easy way to quickly map sensor data to (sequences of) sounds, images and videos using a drag & drop user interface.
  2. Our EditorX software allows you to configure the digitizer to process and map the sensor data of multiple sensors simultaneously.
  3. Our Link software allows you to receive the sensor data from the digitizer and use your computer to view, calibrate, record, process and map the sensor data of multiple sensors simultaneously.
  4. Our SensorX software allows you to receive the sensor data from the digitizer and use your computer to view, calibrate, record, process and map the data of a single sensor.

Application notes
  1. Make sure the sensor is plugged into the Digitizer with the red wire connected to power. Reversing the plug may cause damage to the sensor.
  2. The MoveOn sensor needs about 2 minutes before it is ready for stable operation.
  3. The sensitivity is set with the trimpot on the back at the top right (while the cable is pointing down). It effectively sets the distance range within which objects are detected.
  4. To set the output to digital mode, short the right header on the front (while the cable is pointing down). The sensor now outputs a pulse if movement is detected within its field of view. The pulse length is user-configurable with the trimpot on the back at the top left (while the cable is pointing down). With the switch on the back to the left (while the cable is pointing down), the pulse is triggered when someone enters and then leaves the field of view (single-trigger). With the switch to the right it triggers when somebody enters OR leaves the field of view (multi-trigger).
  5. To set the output to analog mode, short the left header on the front (while the cable is pointing down). The sensor now outputs values continuously representing movement. These values can then be offset (eg. using the Absolute conversion function in EditorX), scaled and smoothed so as to get a signal that roughly corresponds with activity in the room.
  6. Best results are obtained if the sensor is placed up high, about 2 to 3 meter (7 to 10 feet) in the area it is being used in.
  7. The unit is not suited for environments with rapid temperature changes due to wind, heating devices or air conditioners, nor will the unit work well in environments with shocks and vibrations or environments with sunlight or other intense light aimed directly at the sensor.
