apology for my ignorance, but to what exactly this 'male plug with 3 pins in a row spaced' is plugged to? arduino board? is there an additional connector to be used here? thanks

The plug is compatible with any of the I-CubeX digitizers (see http://icubex.com/digitizers). To connect it to an Arduino board you could use our Shield (see http://icubex.com/shield) or you would have to take the wires out of the plug housing and connect them to the Arduino board separately .
