Im sorry to go ahead and post this all just like this, I dont mean to offend and the below communication could be removed by the administrator should it be inappropriate and indeed deemed negative towards the Icube community. But I assure you it isnt like that. I simply, really must establish what is going on with my setup. and this way at least the Icube community can pick at my problems.

please read previous messages below to get the gist of things.

I am operating in MacOSX the latest version 10.4.2 or it was when I last checked. and I have all the latest drivers required for my midiman midisport 4x4 the updates being just released.

I am having problems similar to others featured on the forum, but I do not fully know how to use MAX as such just yet.

I am using various softwares created with MAXMSP for VJing etc. and some that arent, and music softwares such as reason etc.

I had my reach working on one occasion it took me 5hrs, I was most dismayed and now discontinued.

I have never managed to successfully route the midi other than the one occasion, since then my kit has gone crazy, Editors out of date and been unable to establish any midi-sensor environment.

My kit remains boxed as new apart from reach sensor which came broke,
and I have now had the severed lead repared. but I doubt its operabilities.
I must say though that I cube where most thorough in replying, and have offered to replace my sensor for me.

It has now been sometime since our last communications, due to a very busy period for myself, moving home and adjusting to new surroundings.
I am also completing my MSC qualification in 6 days time.

I am researching Midi sensor environments, with a view to using them for live performances with John Ellis (cinematic orchestra) and Little Green
a new collective of musicians featuring John who are planning some dates
across the country and possibly internationally.

I also intend to present my findings at a trade show (A decade of creative technology) which will feature industry representation. Other sensors environments are being presented at the Leeds Metropolitan University MSC final show. These have been developed by York University and are very reputable but are not Mac OS based.

Hi can anybody help me?

I m running a Macosx.3.8 system with the new editor, my sensors behave
eratically they are hard to configure and I really need to build some
kind of interactive environment for my MSC in creative technologies by
August, I just dont know if this is possible, I have recently
downloaded the new editor but havnt bothered to test them as I feel
stuck in the mud with the whole thing.

I have video and sounds that I want to triggger and adjust using my
laser sensors reach sensor and taptile.

My friend says he can give me a MAX/MSP patch to trigger the samples I
am sure I would need Jitter to run this and I really have no IDEA
about programming apart from some very basic Director tutorials I have
done online. + I cannot afford any more software ..
I really wouldnt have a clue how to set up the patch with my sensors
or even if it sould output to full screen.

It would seem Director could be a solution avoiding the more difficult
side of programming and opening avenues to web orientated work with
shockwave.

I am interested in the application of such sensor equipment and DVD
authoring......I saw some links to this through the I-cube help pages
but I couldnt find any proper information.


Hi,

I'm sorry you have problems with your I-cubeX miniSystem. You state
that the miniDig outputs MIDI data but that your MIDI applications
(Reason and VJ) are not reponding to this, is this correct?
Maybe you need to have only one MIDI application running at the time
(to avoid conflicts of using the same MIDI port). Try only one
application at the time (close also the I-CubeX editor) to see if it
clears the problem.

We made a small "how to use the I-CubeX with Reason" document that you
could use to help you get going.
As for Arkaos DJ we made a small demo at the SIGGRAPH show in LA, so
this works with the miniDig. We are planning on making a "how to"
document for Arkaos DJ in the near future.

Dear sir

I am having alot of trouble configuring my sensors to work with
Reason and
Arkaos VJ can you help me? I have downloaded all technical manuals
for
configuration, my sensors are setup and working i just cant get my
software
to actually respond.
Whilst using Reason the midi is in use and a green fluctuating light
is
present however the dials dont move? Reason even senses them? Also I
can
find no technical assistance relating to Arkaos Vj as this seems to
have
gone from your site. I can asure you that i have seen such support
because
this is what inspired me to buy my I cube X system unfortunatly it is
taking
me weeks to get all this stuff setup.

I would like to present my sensors fuly functional with Reason and
Arkaos VJ
3.2 by september the 8th for my masters in science in creative
technologies
project at Leeds Metroplitan University in the UK, i am trying to
develop a
midi controlled virtual environment utilising and promoting! the I
cube X
mini system but I have to say that things are not loooking too good
at the
present and although I can see they are functioning ie coming through
channel A on my midiman flickering etc
I still havent even began to trigger video clips via Arkaos or alter
any
sounds? I am puzzled I think it may be to do with channel settings
etc, but
I have played around with these also.

My Reach sensor also arrived damaged with the wire half severed I
must
implement this sensor for my project so I am affraid that if I send
it back
to Canada now it will not return in time for me to calibrate it for
my
presentation on september the 8th the sensor functions to some degree
when
tape is wrapped around the severe however if I return it after my
presentation it will not be within the agreed time of 14 days of
receipt
could anything be done to lengthen the time of return under these
circumstances or would your company make any compensation for my

Hi,

I will need more information about the problem you have with the editor to help you adequately.
When you launch the editor do you get the MIDI connection screen? Can you select the port where the digitizer is connected? When you click the "check connection" button in the MIDI connection screen can you see that the MIDI out LED on your MIDI interface blink? When you connect the miniDig to the MIDI interface can you see the MIDI LED blink when you power up the miniDig?

To make a fast interactive setup I recommend that you use Max/MSP along with our icube object plugin (downloadable from our website). Host mode iCube/oCube Max plugins v2.01 available at:

well yes the midi man blinks but the app wont launch, I know the midi is fine because I have unplugged the digitiser and replaced with keyboard and tested and also from computer out.

The digitiser also responds it has a flashing light, although looks half lit or something but i am sure thats right.

seems to be the software, but if i ant run the editor surely thats me.?

Hi,

If I understand correctly you start the I-CubeX aplication, you should see a splash screen showing I-CubeX initializing... then the MIDI out LED blink on the interface then nothing (meaning you don't get the editor environment or the MIDI connection window). Is this correct?

I get the midi connection dialog it trys and trys but cant see the digitiser
then the editor opens, but is useless because it cant see the digitiser.

the first ever attempt I made the editor didnt even open but I downloaded it again and reinstalled, seems better but doesnt see the digitiser, Like I say im worried its bust to be honest. or perhaps a driver conflict with midiman 4x4 new driver for osx10.4.2

Hi,

Are you using any other MIDI applications when you start the editor? If so close all MIDI applications (such as Max, Reason, ...) to avoid a MIDI conflict. Are you also using the IAC driver, if so un-install/remove it to verify that this isn't creating a problem.

Hi,

The IAC driver is located in the
Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI setup
In the MIDI Device select the IAC Driver then click the Show info button. You should get a window showing if "Device is online". Check this option out then hit apply then close the window.

Restart the I-CubeX editor for a test.

Hi,

Can you use another computer (Windows if you have) to test your miniDig with the editor on something different so we can troubleshoot if it's related to the setup on your computer on the miniDig?

I need to get this sorted quik, I already have tested this, I stated previously,
At uni with a Proffesor in science whom studys midi kit , lent it them for a few days, but no joy!! all correct software installed etc.
