Connect (MacOS/Windows)

Manage WiDigs, USB-microDigs, Wi-microDigs, iCubinos and other serial devices with our Connect software. A quick and easy way to organize digitizer communications via virtual MIDI ports. Includes mapping to/from OSC (Open Sound Control), POST/GET webhooks for IoT (Internet of Things) applications, data logging to file, a firmware upload utility (MacOS-only) and a basic host mode (raw data) as well as standalone mode (processed data) configuration panel.

Releases

12 Mar 2024: Connect v1.7.0.6 (MacOS)

12 Mar 2024: Connect v1.6.0.4 (Windows)

Before starting the new version of Connect, make sure to quit and move the older version to a place where it can't be started automatically, or simply delete it. After starting the new version of Connect, open the "About" window from the main menu in the system tray on Windows or the task bar on MacOS to verify the version that is actually running.

Please note that the posted zip file of a released version may be replaced by a newer file without notice, ie. without the newer file being tagged as a new version. If you encounter any issues with the software, please check back here to see if a newer file (ie. same version but dated more recently) than the one you are using is available.

Check the download archive page for older releases. Not the right solution ? We have more software.

System requirements

Installation and user manuals, tutorials and tips

  • See the support wiki.
  • If the virtual MIDI port created by Connect is not available in an application, quit and restart Connect. You may also have to restart the application.
  • On Windows, Connect only uses LoopMIDI's virtual MIDI port driver, so installing LoopMIDI is all that's needed. There's no need to create any ports in LoopMIDI nor to even run LoopMIDI.
  • On Windows, Connect needs to have created virtual MIDI ports for I-CubeX digitizers BEFORE any software is started that needs to access these virtual MIDI port(s) that were created by Connect.
  • The Bluetooth pairing code is "0" for Wi-microDigs running Firmware 6.40 or higher and "1" otherwise. On recent MacOS versions no pairing code is needed, but on Windows it is still required to complete the connection.

Features

  • Upload firmware to a WiDig, USB-microDig or Wi-microDig (MacOS only).
  • Manage connections to multiple USB-microDigs, Wi-microDigs, iCubinos and other serial devices.
  • Route all communications with each WiDig, USB-microDig, Wi-microDig, iCubino or other serial device via a virtual MIDI port.
  • Map the sensor output of a WiDig, USB-microDig, Wi-microDig, iCubino or other serial device to OSC messages.
  • Map the sensor output of a WiDig, USB-microDig, Wi-microDig, iCubino or other serial device to a webhook URL address for IoT (Internet of Things) applications.
  • Control actuator outputs of a WiDig, USB-microDig, Wi-microDig, iCubino or other serial device with OSC messages.

Recently added:

  • Configure WiFi from Connect.>/LI>
  • Control and configure a digitizer, it's inputs as well as it's outputs with OSC messages (MacOS only).
  • Ghost mode inputs (use shift-click): use adjacent high-numbered inputs to process the same sensor data but map differently.
  • Use keyboard to control the UI (Windows-only).
  • MacOS dark mode compatibility.
  • Input level indicators.
  • Select Solo input with ctrl-click.
  • Turn actuator outputs on/off with alt/option-click.
  • Enable/disable WiFi or BLE (for WiDig) or MIDICable (for USB-microDig) capability, and display WiDig WiFi IP address.
  • Assign a HTTP GET (without sensor data) or POST (with sensor data in JSON format) message to each sensor input.
  • WiDig compatibility.
  • Upload firmware to a WiDig, USB-microDig (with hardware v7.0 or greater) or Wi-microDig (with hardware 6.0 or greater) (v1.5.1 or higher for MacOS only).
  • Sensor/actuator selection menu and I2C digital sensor/actuator method entry.
  • Output I2C digital sensor data as named OSC messages according to their selected method.
  • Wi-microDig v5 compatibility.
  • Control actuator outputs with OSC messages (v1.4.1 or higher for MacOS only).
  • Pass-through MIDI System Realtime and System Common messages.
  • Improved reliability wrt. adding a Wi-microDig to the list of devices.
  • Basic digitizer configuration panel: turn sensor inputs on/off and set the sampling interval, switch between host mode and standalone mode, mute/unmute MIDI output and reset.
  • Output analog sensor data as OSC messages.
  • Keep virtual MIDI ports once created, even if the digitizer is disabled, unplugged or otherwise disconnected.
  • Check for updates of Connect and/or the firmware of connected devices.
  • Auto (re-)enable feature for Wi-microDigs.
  • Enable the addition of iCubinos and other serial devices, to be mapped to virtual MIDI ports.

Known issues

Please notify us if you encounter a bug or issue.

  • Connect 1.7.0.4: If Connect stops forwarding data from the digitizer to the virtual MIDI port, the USB cable connection to the digitizer may have been (very) temporarily interrupted. Disabling and then re-enabling the serial interface from the digitizer view in Connect resolves the issue.
  • Connect 1.7.0.4: If error messages appear stating that "the serial port was already opened by other software", re-download Connect 1.7.0.4 (or a newer version). This issue was fixed on the release day and the newer release of Connect was not assigned a new version.
  • Connect 1.7.0.4: On MacOS Ventura, when adding a Wi-microDig, after selecting the Wi-microDig from the list, if there is a passcode error it's not possible to cancel and exit the dialog and the Connect needs to be restarted. The workaround is to connect to the Wi-microDig from the Bluetooth preferences dialog and only once connected, add the Wi-microDig in Connect (so that the passcode error doesn't occur in Connect's dialog).
  • If your digitizer's identifying numbers are incorrectly stored in the digitizer, the software may show unexpected behaviour. The label numbers are shown on the bottom of the digitizer. Use ResetDig to restore these numbers as per the label (except for the firmware number if the firmware was updated).
  • On Windows 10, if the File check button in the lower right corner of the main window isn't visible click "Refresh".
  • On Windows 10, removing a digitizer from the list of devices and re-adding it by clicking the Refresh button may result in popup window advising that the virtual port cannot be created. Retry refreshing, or restart Connect to work around this issue.
  • On Windows 10, adding a Wi-microDig may require re-adding it first as a Bluetooth device via eg. the Windows system tray dialog before Connect can communicate with it. Once the Wi-microDig appears in Connect's digitizer view, you may need to mute, and then un-mute the Wi-microDig before sensor data is received.
  • On Windows 10, it may not be possible to add both a Wi-microDig as well as a WiDig. Please contact us if you encounter this issue.
  • On Windows 10, if you are notified that MSVCR120.dll and MSVCP120.dll are missing, install the Visual Studio 2013 redistributable packages.
  • On Windows 10, if you can't (re-)connect with a Wi-microDig, it may be necessary to re-create the Outgoing serial port, in the Bluetooth settings under "More bluetooth options", in the tab "COM ports".
  • The addition of other serial devices, including I-CubeX compatible ones (ie. iCubinos but not USB- or Wi-microDigs), is experimental and has been tested with only a few Arduino boards. If a device is not shown in the device list, please advise us.
