SensePlay (MacOS/Windows)

The SensePlay software is a quick and easy way to setup audio, video or slide shows controlled by gestures and other movements captured with analog sensors.

Application Examples

  • Checkout the SensePlay website to see how the SensePlay software, together with I-CubeX sensors, was used for an interactive advertising installation.
  • Use a TapTile sensors to trigger images of your cherished past and turn your walk way or corridor into a memory lane.
  • Use a MoveMiniOn sensor to trigger a shotgun sound, and aim the MoveMiniOn at your tomato plants so that squirrels and other animals won't go near them anymore.
  • Connect ReachOn sensors galvanically via a conducting wire to various fruits so that each fruit becomes a touch pad, then use SensePlay to trigger your favourite drum sounds and you will have created a fruity drum set !
  • Releases

06 Jun 2023: SensePlay v1.03 for MacOS or Windows.

Please note that the posted zip file of a released version may be replaced by a newer file without notice, ie. without the newer file being tagged as a new version. If you encounter any issues with the software, please check back here to see if a newer file (ie. same version but dated more recently) than the one you are using is available.

Check the download archive page for older releases. Not the right solution ? We have more software.

    System requirements

Installation and user manuals, tutorials and tips

    • Please read the SensePlay reference documentation, or click the help button in SensePlay (the same documentation will open in a window).
    • On Windows, it is necessary that Connect has created virtual MIDI ports for the connected digitizers BEFORE starting SensePlay. Also, note that Connect needs the LoopMIDI virtual MIDI port software.
    • Digital I2C sensors are not (yet) supported by SensePlay.
    • The Bluetooth pairing code is "0" for Wi-microDigs running Firmware 6.40 or higher and "1" otherwise. On recent MacOS versions no pairing code is needed, but on Windows it is still required to complete the connection.
    • Connect to a digitizer by selecting (in the Digitizer section) the port name that matches your digitizer or the MIDI interface that the digitizer is connected to, then add source blocks to create triggers and/or controls, and add output blocks to create audio, video or image output. Press ESC (escape) to display fullscreen. Save and load all settings to/from a file, also automatically at startup.
    • Multiple instances of SensePlay can run on one computer if started from within their own folder. This enables the use of multiple digitizers.

    Features

    • Map sensor values to start or stop an audio file, or control its volume.
    • Map sensor values to start or stop a video file, or control its audio volume.
    • Map sensor values to start or stop a complete slide show, or advance one slide only. Slides can be images or videos.
    • Sensor data processing: inversion (increasing sensor values result in decreasing data values), zooming (set the sensitivity of an input to a specific voltage range), threshold detection (an event is triggered if the sensor value crosses below or above a set value).
    • Configuration management: save and load configurations of multiple source and output blocks.

    Recently added:

    • Support for Apple silicon.

    Known issues

Please notify us if you encounter a bug or issue.

    • Digital I2C sensors are not (yet) supported by SensePlay.
    • If your digitizer's identifying numbers are incorrectly stored in the digitizer, the software may show unexpected behaviour. The label numbers are shown on the bottom of the digitizer. Use ResetDig to restore these numbers as per the label (except for the firmware number if it was updated).
    • The red file position indicator line may not move even though the media file is playing. This may occur after scrolling down/up the application window.
    • Loading multiple sources and outputs may fail if the computer is not powerful enough. If the loading fails, reduce the number of sources, outputs and media files, or experiment with loading parameters that can be edited in the settings file using a text editor. The loading parameters are applied in the following order: second_read_delay (applied after a digitizer connection has been established), recall_container_interval (in use during loading of output blocks), recall_internal_delay (in use during loading of media files), recall_source_interval (in use during loading of source blocks).
    • For more details about the loading process of a settings file, set the verbose parameter to 1 in the settings file.
    • If the sensor data is showing but output triggering/control is failing, try changing the udp_port parameter in the settings file to change the port number that is used to send processed sensor data as OSC packets from sources to output blocks.
